About us

Sandbach Striders was born back in 2003. Since the early days, membership has grown with a firm ethos of the club being not just about running but social activities as well. The club is affiliated to UK AAA and has its own qualified coaches. Many other special events take place on various nights too.

The club meets on Wednesdays at 18:30 and Sundays at 09:00 at Elworth Cricket Club.

Whilst many members compete in races from 5k to Marathons, the emphasis remains purely on keeping people motivated and having fun. Why not scan through our race reports to see what we’ve been up to? Having read them, you’re sure to see why Sandbach Striders has developed the motto of being

Race Report: Trentham 10m 21/07/2013

Just before the race I treated myself to a massage by Brian Coles who worked on my tight calves, especially the left. And I really felt the benefit whilst running.

My game plan was to try and beat last year’s time of 1. 31.

But as I was standing on the start line I could not see any other “W” ladies in my NSSRA category that I normally run against.

So I thought to myself just go for it.  This race is a two lap course. It start with a nice downhill but there is a very long drag of a hill past Tittensor caves. Worse luck you have to do it twice.  A lot have to walk this but I was determined to get up it with my mantra of “hot chocolate drinking chocolate”. The course then flattens out for a bit with a couple more downhill’s. The only bad bit of the course is that you have to finish on a hill and when you are knackered it is a bit of a bind to try and keep the legs moving!!

Mandy from South Cheshire Harriers asked me if I was good on long distances (she was in my W category) and we ended up having a bit of a cat and mouse game for most of the race. The weather was humid but a lot better than running in the very hot weather we have had recently. This year I unfortunately did not beat  1.31 but came home just a minute after Mandy in a time of 1hr.35.06.

Next year will be the 50th anniversary of the Trentham 10 and the club hope to something special to commemorate this. So if you are free next year then put this one in your diary.

More information is available on the Trentham website.
