About us

Sandbach Striders was born back in 2003. Since the early days, membership has grown with a firm ethos of the club being not just about running but social activities as well. The club is affiliated to UK AAA and has its own qualified coaches. Many other special events take place on various nights too.

The club meets on Wednesdays at 18:30 and Sundays at 09:00 at Elworth Cricket Club.

Whilst many members compete in races from 5k to Marathons, the emphasis remains purely on keeping people motivated and having fun. Why not scan through our race reports to see what we’ve been up to? Having read them, you’re sure to see why Sandbach Striders has developed the motto of being

This week's (and last week's!) news 23/02/2014

The inclement weather didn’t stop the members of Sandbach Striders running club from pudding out the pavement miles. On Saturday the free weekly parkrun at Astbury Mere near Congleton saw eight Striders tackle the three lap course.

Six year old Olivia Farnell completed her first full 5k parkrun and even managed to outsprint her father Steve across the finishing line.

Meanwhile over in Yorkshire, club chairman took on his 27th different parkrun course at Graves Park near Sheffield. Torrential rain and high winds made the hilly 5k course al that more enjoyable and the perfect way to spend a Valentine’s day weekend. Michael completed the course in 24:48

Terry Coppenhall became the latest member of Sandbach Striders to earn his 50 parkrun t-shirt for completing his 50th parkrun, all of which have been completed at Congleton, meaning Terry has now ran over 50 miles around Astbury Mere. He was joined this week by 4 other Striders including new boy Peter Ball who ran his first parkrun.

Also on Saturday Lyme Park saw its first parkrun. Club chairman Michael Escolme and Martin Coleman made the journey to Disley to run the hilly one lap route around the scenic grounds of the majestic National Trust stately home.

On Sunday Biddulph Running Club hosted the ever popular 5 mile trail run around the Knypersley reservoir.  Two Striders were amongst the 200 runners who completed the hilly and muddy off-road race:

Also on Sunday Chris Brumby took part in the annual Peelers Hike, a 23 mile event organised by the Bury District Scouts. This testing off-road run takes in the scenic splendour of the Elton Reservoir, Holcombe Moor and the Irwell Valley.

David Parr opted to run the Oulton Park half-marathon, which consists of six laps of the famous racing circuit. David completed the race in 01:56:42
