About us

Sandbach Striders was born back in 2003. Since the early days, membership has grown with a firm ethos of the club being not just about running but social activities as well. The club is affiliated to UK AAA and has its own qualified coaches. Many other special events take place on various nights too.

The club meets on Wednesdays at 18:30 and Sundays at 09:00 at Elworth Cricket Club.

Whilst many members compete in races from 5k to Marathons, the emphasis remains purely on keeping people motivated and having fun. Why not scan through our race reports to see what we’ve been up to? Having read them, you’re sure to see why Sandbach Striders has developed the motto of being

News from Sandbach Striders 11/08/2014

The annual Pie and Peas 5 mile race at Moulton near Northwich organised by Vale Royal Athletics Club continued to be a huge draw for members of Sandbach Striders running club.

Several graduates of the recent free “couch to 5k” programme organised by the Striders took part in this race including Lindsay Beech, Sarah Mitchell, Kelley Underwood, Sarah Feaver and Stacey Watret. Heather Carter finished first in the veteran ladies category.

Grant Stanning also managed a prize when he bagged £100 of kit vouchers thanks to the race number sweepstake.

40 members of the club in total completed the five mile event whilst club chairman Michael Escolme was also on hand taking photographs all of which can be seen at Bryan Dale's website.

There was another fantastic turnout at the free weekly 5k parkrun at Astbury Mere from members of Sandbach Striders running club with twenty three Striders running the three laps of the mere.

There were quality performances from several female Striders, including club secretary Heather Carter who was the first female finisher. Louise Hayward and Tracey Hale both managed to run new personal best times and there were cheers all round when 10 year old Lucy Coleman managed to run her first 5k parkrun.

Meanwhile over in Hull, Rick Kelso-Davies ran the Hull parkrun in 20:54.

On Sunday, Paul Nicholls took on the challenge of the Long Tour of Bradwell. The organisers describe this is a very tough 33 mile trail run with 6300 feet of ascent/descent. It takes in the scenic splendour of Kinder Scout, Win Hill Woods, Stanage Edge and the Abney Valley. Paul finished the race in 9 hours 48 minutes.

Competing in a triathlon through the tail end of hurricane Bertha was never going to be easy but for three Striders the challenge proved too irresistible last weekend as they donned their wetsuits and headed into a rain swept lake near Whitchurch in Shropshire.

Cheryl Hutchins and Terry Coppenhall took on the Sprint Triathlon completing the 750m swim, 20k bike ride and 5k runin 1hr 34mins and 1hr 28mins respectively while Jason Bulley completed the Olympic distance triathlon of a 1 mile swim, 40k bike ride and 10k run in 2hrs 41mins.
