About us

Sandbach Striders was born back in 2003. Since the early days, membership has grown with a firm ethos of the club being not just about running but social activities as well. The club is affiliated to UK AAA and has its own qualified coaches. Many other special events take place on various nights too.

The club meets on Wednesdays at 18:30 and Sundays at 09:00 at Elworth Cricket Club.

Whilst many members compete in races from 5k to Marathons, the emphasis remains purely on keeping people motivated and having fun. Why not scan through our race reports to see what we’ve been up to? Having read them, you’re sure to see why Sandbach Striders has developed the motto of being

Seven members of Sandbach Striders running club braved torrential rain to run the three laps of Astbury Mere at the free weekly parkrun. Denis Culloty earned himself a new personal best time as did Kelley Underwood and Amy Norman.

Meanwhile in Warrington Michael Escolme also braved the torrential rain to run the parkrun at Victoria Park in 31:59

Also in parkrun action was Darren Varley who ran the parkrun around Avenham park in Preston. Darren finished in 4th position in 19:14.

On Sunday, 13 Striders ran the popular half-marathon in Congleton. For several Striders this was their first half-marathon including Craig Edwards, Andrew Gibson, Janet Burgess and Lucy Lee. Philip Truman and Karen Lovatt also earned themselves new personal bests.

Striders at Congleton half-marathon
Also in action on Sunday were Christiane Bunte and Lucy Darling who took on the new challenge of the Chester metric marathon. This is a 26.2 kilometre event utilising much of the same route as the full marathon. For Lucy this was the furthest distance she has run. Christiane finished in 2:29:47 with Lucy finishing shortly behind in 2:40:44.

Five Striders took on the full marathon distance at Chester. Martin Gunther earned himself a new personal best time and his first sub-4 marathon. Paul Nicholls and Tom Mayell also earned new personal best times.

Steph Cooper travelled to Portugal on Sunday to participate in the Lisbon rock and roll half-marathon. Stepn completed the course in 2:48:44
