About us

Sandbach Striders was born back in 2003. Since the early days, membership has grown with a firm ethos of the club being not just about running but social activities as well. The club is affiliated to UK AAA and has its own qualified coaches. Many other special events take place on various nights too.

The club meets on Wednesdays at 18:30 and Sundays at 09:00 at Elworth Cricket Club.

Whilst many members compete in races from 5k to Marathons, the emphasis remains purely on keeping people motivated and having fun. Why not scan through our race reports to see what we’ve been up to? Having read them, you’re sure to see why Sandbach Striders has developed the motto of being

Last week also saw the usual mid-week running club replaced by a special festive Mulled Wine run. Taking inspiration from the annual Marathon du Médoc, a popular marathon amongst the Striders which has runners traverse the vineyards of Bordeaux drinking wine en route.

This event had Striders run between various locations around Sandbach sipping mulled wine and snacking on festive related foodstuffs.



Members of Sandbach Striders running club also continue to spread their wings far and wide as demonstrated last weekend by Liz O’Keeffe who ran the free weekly 5k parkrun at Albert Park, Melbourne, Australia. Liz finished in 29:04.

Closer to home 13 Striders ran the parkrun around Astbury Mere near Congleton.

Andrew Ayres made his debut at the parkrun shortly after joining the Striders. Whilst Denis Culloty, Chris Holden, Alice Bober and Rachel Collett all earned themselves new personal best times.

Andy Thomas ran the Warrington parkrun for the first time and finished in 11h place overall in a time of 21:05

At the Aberystwyth parkrun at Plascrug park, members of Sandbach Striders made up one sixth of the field when twelve members were in town to help celebrate the wedding of club chair Michael Escolme.

Running the event in loud fancy dress the Striders brought a dash of colour and plenty of smiles to the small parkrun.

Sandbach Striders now find themselves in the unusual position of being the fourth best represented running club for the full duration of Aberystwyth parkrun’s 120 events.

The Nightrunner 10k trail run took place in Delamere Forest. Two Striders took part, Jan Peake finishing in 55:47 Jan Peake and Lucy Darling in 1:07:12.
