About us

Sandbach Striders was born back in 2003. Since the early days, membership has grown with a firm ethos of the club being not just about running but social activities as well. The club is affiliated to UK AAA and has its own qualified coaches. Many other special events take place on various nights too.

The club meets on Wednesdays at 18:30 and Sundays at 09:00 at Elworth Cricket Club.

This week's news! 13/04/2015

It was a quieter week than usual for members of Sandbach Striders Running Club with only six Striders running the free weekly 5k Congleton parkrun around Astbury Mere.

Denise Dowling, Tracy Howe, Denis Culloty, Lucy Lee and Tony Taylor at the Congleton parkrun
Tony Taylor was once more first Strider home but the best performance of the day was by Tracy Howe who ran a new personal best time.

The full results were as follows:

19:25 Tony Taylor
25:22 Lucy Lee
25:49 Denis Culloty
27:34 Wendy Barnes
28:25 Denise Dowling
29:33 Tracy Howe

Paul Barnett once again ran the Princes parkrun in Liverpool, finishing the course in 22:13.

Michael Escolme was in London preparing to lead a group of fifteen Striders on a run around each location of the Monopoly Board, but managed to squeeze in a parkrun at Mile End, East London. Set in an attractive urban community park alongside the Regent’s Canal, Michael completed the two lap course in 31 minutes exactly.

Later that morning the group of Sandbach Striders met in Marlyebone and ran 18 miles around each location on the traditional Monopoly board. The Striders organised their first Monopoly run three years ago but due to popular demand from the members have re-run it again. For some Striders this was the longest distance they have yet covered. Nick Hogan, Rachel Green, Amy Norman, Lindsay Beech, Janet Burgess and Isobel Bennett all took one step closer to being marathon runners by comfortably completing their longest distance event to date.

Paul Nicholls found himself enjoying bon temps in France, where he was visiting in order to participate in the Paris Marathon. Paul joined 37,000 other runners on the Champs-Élysées, before heading towards the Place de la Concorde and continuing through the city to finish at Foch Avenue. Paul completed the race in 4:56:45.

Also in action at the weekend was Chris Brumby who ran the Lakes Mountain 42, a race every bit as tough as its name suggests. The race consists of 42 miles of unmarked trails including the summits of Helvellyn and High Street and includes around ten thousand feet of ascent. An early dawn start at 6.00am completes the challenge. Chris managed to shave ten minutes from his 2013 time completing the route in 11 hours 33 minutes.

This coming Saturday graduates of the Couch-to-5k course will be running their first 5k at Congleton parkrun, it would be terrific to see as many Striders there as possible cheering them on.
