About us

Sandbach Striders was born back in 2003. Since the early days, membership has grown with a firm ethos of the club being not just about running but social activities as well. The club is affiliated to UK AAA and has its own qualified coaches. Many other special events take place on various nights too.

The club meets on Wednesdays at 18:30 and Sundays at 09:00 at Elworth Cricket Club.

Whilst many members compete in races from 5k to Marathons, the emphasis remains purely on keeping people motivated and having fun. Why not scan through our race reports to see what we’ve been up to? Having read them, you’re sure to see why Sandbach Striders has developed the motto of being

Eighteen members of Sandbach Striders Running Club took on the might of the 34 mile Sandstone Trail Challenge.

The route stretches from Whitchurch to Frodsham along the Mid Cheshire Ridge and is a popular cross country walkers route.  Darren Varley was first Strider home finishing in 13th place overall out of 198 finishers.

Not all of the Striders took the race as seriously as others. Clare Pheasey, Catherine Greaves and Terry Coppenhall all found time at mile 30 to enjoy a glass of wine before the final approach into Frodsham town centre.

Meanwhile on the same morning nine Striders ran the free weekly 5k parkrun at AStbury Mere. New Striders Claire Dalton and Emma Hassall both earned themselves new personal best times. The full results were as follows:

Another new Strider Tracey Surridge opted to run the parkrun at Delamere Forest, finishing the pleasant off-road route in a time of 34:15

On Sunday, four Striders ran the popular 10k at Market Drayton in Shropshire. Steph Cooper accompanied her mum Janette around the course having talked her into taking up running only a few months earlier.

Also on Sunday it was the annual running of the Manchester 10k. This huge and popular nationally recognised event is popular with runners from beginners through to Olympians. Two Striders completed the event including Alex Bramhill who deserves a special mention as since joining the Striders on their couch-to-5k course she has steadily built up her running ability to blast through the 6.22 mile course.

Sandbach Striders are a friendly, supportive and welcoming running club serving the communities of Sandbach, Middlewich, Alsager, Holmes Chapel and beyond for over ten years. As well as a varied running programme the club has an excellent social calendar and for those runners looking to improve, Sandbach Striders have a number of fully-qualified running coaches to offer advice on training and ensure the safety and well-being of its members.
