About us

Sandbach Striders was born back in 2003. Since the early days, membership has grown with a firm ethos of the club being not just about running but social activities as well. The club is affiliated to UK AAA and has its own qualified coaches. Many other special events take place on various nights too.

The club meets on Wednesdays at 18:30 and Sundays at 09:00 at Elworth Cricket Club.

Whilst many members compete in races from 5k to Marathons, the emphasis remains purely on keeping people motivated and having fun. Why not scan through our race reports to see what we’ve been up to? Having read them, you’re sure to see why Sandbach Striders has developed the motto of being

Race Report: Warrington 10k 25/06/2015

A quick dash up the A50 on Thursday evening saw me on my way to the Warrington 10K.
According to the billing the course is flat fast 10K. The race has been hosted by Warrington Road Runners for the last 35 years and it is the longest established 10k in Warrington.

The was race started at 7:30pm by a loud claxon and was a two (and a bit) laps of

Race Report: Trail Marathon Wales 20/06/2015

I hate midges! Nasty tiny biting flying biting irritating biting things midges... I hate them.

So when, after 2 hours in the car, we arrived at the Coed y Brenin visitors centre on Friday evening at twenty to eight and stepped out of the car, the swarming midges that greeted our arrival was not a pleasant experience. I was there, however, to register for the Trail Marathon Wales the following morning and therefore had to brave the flying, biting onslaught. Perfectly natural for a dense forest to have midges and it was late evening but that doesn't mean it was anything other than hateful. Registration completed we headed on and (still getting bitten even in the car) got to our caravan and I set out my kit for the following morning.

Race Report: Shrewsbury Half-marathon 21/05/2015

So firstly let’s deal with elephant in the room; the Nuffield Health Shrewsbury Half Marathon organised by “In the Running” was actually a 12.6 mile race due to a mistake in how the course was marked.
As the race was not cheap to enter (£22.50), sponsored and organised by an events company, I think this was inexcusable and left a lot of runners very disappointed.

Club 10k Results 17/06/2015

A big well done to all of the 56 Striders who finished last night's Club 10k Race! The rain finally cleared to leave us with a warm and humid evening, not ideal running weather by any means but it could have been a lot worse!

There were some absolutely terrific performances with the first 10 runners all finishing sub-45 minutes. As usual a bit of healthy club competition drove some Striders on to achieving new personal best times.

Race report: Shutlingsloe Fell Race 11/06/2015

Shutlingsloe fell race is a part of the Staffordshire Moorlands Summer Series  (1 of 10), which are held on Thursday evenings over the summer. 'Shutlingsloe', is the shortest of the summer series, just 3 1/2 miles accent  to the top of Shutlingsloe and down again.

I arrived at Maccesfield forest visitors centre to a hive of activity, about 150 runners were present for this one, from local running clubs around Staffordshire and Cheshire.

Race Report: Bolton Hill Marathon 06/06/2015

Having ran a good few miles this year I was not really looking forward to this event as I have been nursing a nasty knee niggle for some weeks now which has been restricting my running somewhat.

However, this was the Bolton Hill Marathon and having done this once before on one very cold March morning in 2014 I was pleased that the organiser (Phil Eccleston) had moved it to the sunny delights of June.

Saturday 30 May saw 8 striders run the demanding but scenic 9K Wincle Trout race.
Liz on the river crossing
It's described as a trail race but realistically it's a fell one.  Every year the race starts at a different place because it's rotated between three farms. This year we started on the mid section on the Dane Valley hills.

This week's news: 31/05/2015

Members of Sandbach Striders Running Cub once more featured in events around the county and further afield.
Duncan Robertson at Conwy parkrun
Duncan Robertson continued his streak of running a different parkrun course each week by running his third ever event at his third different course. The 5k parkrun route in Conwy in North Wales starts at the RSPB site, the Conwy course is generally nice and flat, with the exception of twice needing to cross a pedestrian bridge. It is an 'in and out' layout with excellent views of the castle and an invigorating sea breeze! Duncan finished the route in 25:17.
