About us

Sandbach Striders was born back in 2003. Since the early days, membership has grown with a firm ethos of the club being not just about running but social activities as well. The club is affiliated to UK AAA and has its own qualified coaches. Many other special events take place on various nights too.

The club meets on Wednesdays at 18:30 and Sundays at 09:00 at Elworth Cricket Club.

Whilst many members compete in races from 5k to Marathons, the emphasis remains purely on keeping people motivated and having fun. Why not scan through our race reports to see what we’ve been up to? Having read them, you’re sure to see why Sandbach Striders has developed the motto of being

This week's news 20/07/2015

It was an uncharacteristically quiet week for the members of Sandbach Striders running club. Despite that Striders took part in four different parkrun events and two longer distance events.

At the free weekly parkrun at Congleton thirteen Striders completed the three laps of Astbury Mere, with Martin Gunther earning himself a new personal best time.

At the nearby Delamere Forest parkrun father and son Paul and George Nicholls ran times of 25:55 and 23:21 respectively.

Gillian Roycroft found herself in the Lake District and so ran the Fell Foot parkrun at Newby Bridge. This undulating and mixed terrain course gives runners terrific views over Lake Windermere. Gillian finished in a time of 28:11.

Michael Escolme ran the Cardiff parkrun, a one lap course based in Bute Park with views along the route of the River Taff, Michael finished the course in 33:20.

Kate Jayden completed the Bolton Ironman triathlon. An Ironman triathlon consists of a 2.8km swim, a 112 mile bicycle ride and a marathon. Kate finished the event in 14 hours 13 minutes and 28 seconds with individual times of 1:37:52 for the swim, 7:42:05 for the bicycle ride and 4:32:28 for the marathon.

Paul Nicholls ran The Wild One, a ten lap trail marathon based in Worcester which aims to raise funds for a local children’s hospice. Paul finished the course in 05:28:06. Paul's race report from this event can be read here.

Club members ran the annual Predictathon 10k, a race around the Sandbach 10k route but with an important difference. No watches, mobile phones or headphones are permitted and the winner is the runer who crosses the lie closest to the time they predicted before setting off. Philip Truman was the overall winner coming in only 3 seconds off his predicted time, with Karen Wright bets female only 11 seconds of her predicted time.

Sandbach Striders are a welcoming and inclusive running club which welcomes runners of all abilities. Club members come from all over South Cheshire and North Staffs and the club prides itself in the wide range of events and social activities organised for its members.
