About us

Sandbach Striders was born back in 2003. Since the early days, membership has grown with a firm ethos of the club being not just about running but social activities as well. The club is affiliated to UK AAA and has its own qualified coaches. Many other special events take place on various nights too.

The club meets on Wednesdays at 18:30 and Sundays at 09:00 at Elworth Cricket Club.

Whilst many members compete in races from 5k to Marathons, the emphasis remains purely on keeping people motivated and having fun. Why not scan through our race reports to see what we’ve been up to? Having read them, you’re sure to see why Sandbach Striders has developed the motto of being

Race Report: Teach First Run The River 10k 15/09/2015

On Tuesday 15th September I did the Teach First Run the River in London. Starting at 7:00 in the evening in More London near Tower Bridge, over 3,000 runners set off to do a 5k or 10k, crossing several bridges across the Thames, and finishing at dusk with a jog across Tower Bridge, which looked amazing all lit up in the evening light. A great race .
There are no path or road closures so we passed many bemused London Tourists who were
surprised to see the mass of blue t-shorts heading towards them. I completed it in 1hr 2 mns, which I was happy with given the stops and starts. I haven’t got a photo of me finishing as I walked to the start carrying nothing but my number! Picture from the internet below.

Second run today, Sunday 20 September,  the English Half Marathon in Warringron. A much improved course this year with an inspiring short detour through the Warrington Wolves stadium, just as I was starting to flag at 11 miles. Photo attached of me and Warrington Road Runner Diane Whitfield with our medals. I did a respectable 2hrs 13mns, and throughroghly enjoyed the run. I met another Strider but didn’t catch his name (Philip!)
