About us

Sandbach Striders was born back in 2003. Since the early days, membership has grown with a firm ethos of the club being not just about running but social activities as well. The club is affiliated to UK AAA and has its own qualified coaches. Many other special events take place on various nights too.

The club meets on Wednesdays at 18:30 and Sundays at 09:00 at Elworth Cricket Club.

Whilst many members compete in races from 5k to Marathons, the emphasis remains purely on keeping people motivated and having fun. Why not scan through our race reports to see what we’ve been up to? Having read them, you’re sure to see why Sandbach Striders has developed the motto of being

Sandbach 10k 2015 Sponsored by Butcher and Barlow LLP

It was the Tenth Anniversary of the Sandbach 10k sponsored by Butcher and Barlow LLP.

This year 166 runners were set on their way along the multi-terrain course by Mayor Gill Merry and her consort.

First to cross the line was Carl Moulton from Boalloy Running Club in Congleton who finished in a time of 33:31 followed by Sandbach Strider Tim Morris in a time of 35:43. James Ainsworth from Vale Royal AC was third in a time of 36:28. Sarah Roberts from Pensby Runners was first female, finishing in a time of 38:30. In second place was Gemma Barnett from Vale Royal AC in a time of 39:59. Third place was Kate Mills in a time of 44:28.

First V40 male finisher was Ian Brough from Vale Royal AC in a time of 38:28, first V40 female was Kirsten Jack who finished in 49:12.

The first V50 male finisher was Mikko Kuronen from Congleton Harriers who finished in 39:01. The first V50 female was Carol Higgs who crossed the line in 45:19

In the V60 category, first male was Bob Freeman was West Cheshire AC in a time of 41:46. Elaine Devine from Stockport Harriers was first V60 female in a time of 1:01:36.

Race sponsors Butcher and Barlow LLP were well represented by ten entrants who ran the event raising money for Guide Dogs for the Deaf. They included Myles Hindley who completed the event in a dog fancy dress costume.

Earlier in the morning 60 children ran the half a mile ‘family fun run.’ First across the line was 11 year old Lucy Coleman who was taking art in her ninth running of this race!

During the morning spectators were treated to live music from KT and Friends, a BBQ hosted by Holmes Chapel Scouts, Bouncy Castle, Face Painting, Gingerbread decorating, Ultimate Frisbee, Cricket taster sessions and a sale of home-made cakes. In total £650 was raised for the South Cheshire branch of The Samaritans.
