About us

Sandbach Striders was born back in 2003. Since the early days, membership has grown with a firm ethos of the club being not just about running but social activities as well. The club is affiliated to UK AAA and has its own qualified coaches. Many other special events take place on various nights too.

The club meets on Wednesdays at 18:30 and Sundays at 09:00 at Elworth Cricket Club.

Whilst many members compete in races from 5k to Marathons, the emphasis remains purely on keeping people motivated and having fun. Why not scan through our race reports to see what we’ve been up to? Having read them, you’re sure to see why Sandbach Striders has developed the motto of being

Here is a round up of this weeks running activities from Sandbach Striders, involving 6 parkruns, a trail run, an ultra, a 10k and a half marathon.
Six Striders took part in the Congleton parkrun at Astbury Mere, which marked Tony Taylor’s 100th parkrun. Full results were:

Duncan Robertson took part in the Burnage and finished in 27.37.

Paul Barnett travelled to Victoria Park for the Warrington parkrun, finishing in 20.13 earning himself a new personal best time.

Chairman Mik Escolme and Martin Coleman were in Stoke for Hanley parkrun. Martin finished in 20.25 and Mik in 26.45.

Julia Dunlop ran the Conwy parkrun in 31.58.
Over in Bulgaria, club member Liz O’Keeffe ran her local parkrun, in slightly higher temperatures than here, finishing in 27.31

Tom Mayall and Kevern Roberts took part in the Hatters Half, a half marathon which starts at Edgeley Park, Stockport. The scenic route follows the River Mersey along the Trans Pennine Trail towards Northenden, before forming a loop and returning to the finish in Alexandra Park in Edgeley. It was close race between the two with Tom finishing in 1.50 and Kevern in 1.54.

Three Striders took on the mud of the Derwantwater Lakeland Trail Race, a 15 mile trail run which takes in panoramic views of Derwentwater, the surrounding peaks of Skiddaw and Blencathra and the northern fell. The race involved knee deep bogs and stream crossings and lots of hills! Full results were:
Scott Portman: 1.44.47
Jane Pyatt: 1.47.28
Lynsey Astles: 2.08.35

Francis Gilchrist challenged himself to run 35 miles in 12 hours in the Gritstone Grind, running a linear route between Kidsgrove and Disley, on the Gritstone Trail, and he achieved it with time to spare. Fran finished in 9.11.16.

Finally two Striders took part in the Salford 10k, a run around MediaCityUk. Phil Truman finished in 55.51 and Stephen Mclean in 42.24.

This coming Sunday is the Sandbach 10K sponsored by Butcher & Barlow. Places are still available for this multi-terrain race via the Striders website or on the day for a couple of pounds more.
Sandbach Striders are a friendly and encouraging running club that welcome new members of all abilities.
