About us

Sandbach Striders was born back in 2003. Since the early days, membership has grown with a firm ethos of the club being not just about running but social activities as well. The club is affiliated to UK AAA and has its own qualified coaches. Many other special events take place on various nights too.

The club meets on Wednesdays at 18:30 and Sundays at 09:00 at Elworth Cricket Club.

Whilst many members compete in races from 5k to Marathons, the emphasis remains purely on keeping people motivated and having fun. Why not scan through our race reports to see what we’ve been up to? Having read them, you’re sure to see why Sandbach Striders has developed the motto of being

This week's news: 25/09/2016

With other events taking place at Astbury Mere and Delamere, these two local parkruns were cancelled this week. However, keen Striders found alternatives!



Chairman Mik as at his usual parkrun in Hanley but was joined by some fellow Striders this week. Results were:

Paul Barnett completed the Sheffield Hallam parkrun course in 23:57.

Mat Simister travelled to Chester completing their course in 25:20.
Craig Edwards interrupted his weekend away to take part in the Isle of White parkrun, putting in a time of 23:58.

Wendy Barnes was in Cornwall at the National Trust's Lanhydrock, a magnificent late Victorian country house with gardens and wooded estate, for her parkrun completing the course in 32:59.

Steve Treweeks took park in the Dolgellau parkrun, finishing in 37:39.

Over in Bulgaria, club member Liz O’Keeffe ran her local parkrun in 26:50.

Over the course of the weekend, three Striders took park in the Rab Mountain Marathon, a two-day fell running and navigation challenge for solos and pairs with an overnight camp. Runners navigate their way around the Yorkshire Dales checking in at control stations to earn points. The only all female team in the race, Jill Young and Cheryl Hutchins came 28th out of 29th, and Chris Bumby settled for a mid field position in his category.

Sunday saw Striders taking in part in 2 half marathon.
4 Striders were over in East Cheshire for the Macclesfield Half, a challenging but apparently rewarding route through the leafy undulating back roads. Heather Carter came home as first lady in her age category. Full results were:

Alice Sharp took part in the Bristol Half. The course started and finished in Bristol's historic Harbourside. The scenic, sea-level route took runners past the Harbourside, out and back along the Portway, through the stunning Avon Gorge, and twice under Brunel’s famous Clifton Suspension Bridge, along Cumberland Road then around the old city before returning to Anchor Road. Alice finished in 2:23:15

Moe Dutton, Steve Fallows and Tracey Sturridge were in action in the Stoke on Trent Triathlon, at Trentham Gardens.
Moe took part in the super sprint competition and Tracey in the fun competition - 200m swim; 10km cycle; 2.5km run – with Moe coming in as fourth lady in 57:54 and Tracey finishing her first ever tri in 1:01:09.
Steve opted for the Olympic distance, gaining himself a new PB with a finishing time of 2:29:57.
